Interview with Brandon Bailey, Model on the Rise

Whether you know him as Brandon Bailey or Pencil Lunatic, the dancehall artiste and model hailing from Kingston, Jamaica reached the illustrious title of supermodel walking the runways of Paris, Milan, London, and New York. He worked on Kanye’s Yeezy and has consorted with the likes of Ralph Lauren, Prada, and Louis Vuitton to name a few, walking runways and gracing the pages of ad campaigns. Despite his modeling stardom, music remains his first love and that isn’t set to change anytime soon. The independent artiste roams the globe pushing creative boundaries in style and sound. And he’s got a mixtape coming out. Keep your eye out for Laws of Lunacy to drop as the next big thing from Pencil Lunatic.

Where are you from?

What is the view outside of your window? 
Paradise.

How do you define your vocation?
That’s a hard one. I’d have to say above all…I’m an artist & free spirit. I take that with me where ever I go. 

Where do you derive your inspiration from?
My 5 senses (laughing)…I just try to pay attention…inspiration is everywhere. 

How does your industry support or hinder you as an artist? 
Well…Modeling has brought me fame, but I want the same for my musical career. The challenge for me is balancing the two. 

How would you define your personal style?
I’m a Jamaican, so the swagger that comes with that is always a part of me, whether I’m on the runway, or walking to the corner store, it always shines through. 

Artistic style?
Fearless, unapologetic & outside of the box. I like to push boundaries.

What has been your most successful endeavor? 
I’d have to say winning Fashion Faces of the Caribbean in 2015. That was the beginning of my modeling career.   

Least?
You know I try not to focus on that. There’s always a lesson. I try to take the lesson and move on. 

Is success in the process or in the result? I’d have to say it’s in the result, because the process isn’t always pretty.

Do you feel successful in life?  
Yes, but I still have a lot more I want to accomplish.

What goals do you maintain for your future?
I’m working on my “Laws of Lunacy” mixtape, so I want to release that this year. I put the project on hold when I started modeling in 2015, so it’s important to me that I finish it. I would love for people all over the world to hear my music. Eventually I’d like to meet someone and start a family, but music is my main focus right now.

What are you most proud of?
Staying true to myself. 

What do you love in this world?
Music, and my family. Oh…and I love a beautiful woman.
